Product Information
Name:9,10-Dichlorostearic acid
Brand:Biosynth
Description:9,10-Dichlorostearic acid is a fatty acid that is used in the synthesis of ethyl linoleate. It has been shown to be toxicologically safe in rats and rabbits. 9,10-Dichlorostearic acid can be synthesized by reacting chloroform with a mixture of hydrogen chloride and sodium carbonate. This reaction produces two molecules of ethyl linoleate in a 1:2 ratio. The synthesis of 9,10-dichlorostearic acid has been studied using different analytical methods such as gas chromatography and chemical ionization mass spectrometry. These methods have revealed the activation energies for the reaction mechanism to be 61 kJ/mol for the chlorination step and 81 kJ/mol for the dehydroabietic acid hydrolysis step. The thermodynamic analysis shows that this reaction is exothermic and spontaneous at room temperature with an enthalpy change of -50 kJ/mol.
