4,4'-Ditolylurea is a synthetic reagent used in the preparation of aldosterone. It is an anhydride that reacts with sulfonic acid to form a ditolylurea. This compound has a specific activity of 10,000 Ci/mmol and can be used in the determination of anhydride-sulfonic acid equilibria. 4,4'-Ditolylurea is usually used as the reagent in a technique called "3-step reaction" to synthesize aldosterone from cholesterol.
