Dimethylphosphinic chloride is an organolithium reagent that reacts with nucleophiles, such as chlorides or alcohols, to form phosphonium salts. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of a number of viruses, including herpes simplex virus and hepatitis C virus. Dimethylphosphinic chloride also inhibits the synthesis of diacylglycerol from phosphatidylcholine and thus may be useful in treating cancer. Dimethylphosphinic chloride is used in organic chemistry for the synthesis of molecule with a mass spectrometric data.
