Description:3,7-Dimethyl-1,6-octadien-3-ol is a terpene that is found in the essential oils of plants such as lavender. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may also be an absorption enhancer. 3,7-Dimethyl-1,6-octadien-3-ol can be prepared from sodium carbonate and piperonal by a solid phase microextraction method. The hydroxyl group on the molecule makes it more reactive with oxygen and allows for biological activities to take place. 3,7-Dimethyl-1,6 octadien-3 -ol is asymmetric which gives it two different forms: (3R)-3,7 dimethyl 1,6 octadien 3 ol and (3S)-3,7 dimethyl 1,6 octadien 3 ol.
