Leucovorin is a form of folic acid that is used in the treatment of certain types of leukemia. It is an essential component of the reaction system that converts 1,4-dibromo-2-butanol to adriamycin. Leucovorin has been shown to be active against leukemia HL-60 cells, which are resistant to both adriamycin and methotrexate. The drug has also been shown to have some activity against promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells and Molt-4 lymphocytic leukemia cells.
