Disulfoton is a chemical pesticide that belongs to the class of organophosphates. It is used as an insecticide, acaricide, and nematicide. Disulfoton has been shown to have acute toxicities and sublethal effects on plants. Disulfoton binds to the enzyme acetylcholinesterase in the nervous system, which leads to inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity and accumulation of acetylcholine at synaptic junctions. Chronic exposure may cause heart tissue damage through the formation of reactive oxygen species or lipid peroxidation. Monoclonal antibodies can be used for sample preparation before analysis by matrix effect solid phase microextraction (MESP) or dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE), which are analytical methods for determining disulfoton in plant samples.
