2,2-Dimethyl-3,5-hexanedione is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H14O2. It is a colorless liquid that has a strong odor and is soluble in many organic solvents. The molecule consists of a chlorinated carbon atom and two carbonyl groups. The chlorine atom is bonded to the hydrogen atoms of the carbonyl groups through a single bond and each carbonyl group is bonded to two hydrogen atoms through double bonds. The molecule has two enolate groups: one on the carbon atom with three hydrogens and one on the carbon with four hydrogens. These enolate groups are stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. This complex reacts with gadolinium chloride to form gadolinium 2,2-dimethyl-3,5-hexanedionate (GdDMD).
