Deoxypyridinoline is found at high levels in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and also shows high values in geriatric patients. This marker can be used as an indicator for disease activity in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus. The deoxypyridinoline level increases after the onset of these diseases, but decreases during remission periods.
