2,5-Dimethylhexane is a fatty acid that is found in the testes. It has been shown to induce inflammatory diseases and inhibit polycarboxylic acid-induced inflammation in mice. 2,5-Dimethylhexane is also used as a solid catalyst for reactions of carboxylic acids with amines. The reaction mechanism of 2,5-dimethylhexane is not known but it may be due to its ability to activate the carboxylate group by coordinating it with metal ions or by forming a reactive intermediate. Analysis of 2,5-dimethylhexane can be done using an analytical method such as gas chromatography or fluorescence measurement. Transport properties of 2,5-dimethylhexane are determined by measuring its solubility in hydrochloric acid and its ability to dissolve in water.
