Dermorphin is a peptide that is a potent opioid receptor agonist. It has been shown to be 10-100 times more potent than morphine and has been used as a research chemical in the laboratory. Dermorphin can be used as a building block for the synthesis of more complex peptides and drugs. Dermorphin is an intermediate in the production of such drugs as buprenorphine, nalbuphine, and pentazocine. Dermorphin is also useful as an analgesic in veterinary medicine.
