Daidzein diacetate is a daidzein ester that can be produced by the reaction of daidzein with acetic acid. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against some bacteria and fungi, but not others. Daidzein diacetate has been shown to inhibit the growth of lactococcus and lobata, but not of other types of bacteria. The production of isoflavones in this reaction is dependent on the presence of equol, which is an active metabolite from gut microflora. This product does not contain any other isomers such as 3-hydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflavene or 4′-methylene-3′,4′-dihydroisoflavene.
