Description

4-Demethyl tranilast is a carbamate that belongs to the group of pharmaceutical preparations. It is used as a drug for the treatment of inflammation and damage to human skin. 4-Demethyl tranilast has been shown to inhibit phospholipase A2, which is responsible for the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid from phospholipids in cell membranes. The active form of 4-demethyl tranilast is hydrolyzed by esterases into methylbenzyl alcohol and glycerin. This compound also contains functional groups such as aldehydes, which may cause damage to the cells and DNA.
