• Description: Demoxepam is a benzodiazepine drug that is used in the treatment of chronic pain. It has been shown to be more effective than lorazepam and diazepam in animal studies. Demoxepam is administered orally, with a half-life of 12 hours. This drug binds to chlordiazepoxide receptors on the GABA receptor complex, which leads to an increase in chloride influx into cells, causing hyperpolarization and decreased neuronal excitability. Demoxepam also inhibits the enzyme hydrolase (which breaks down other drugs) and can cause drug interactions by inhibiting the metabolism of other drugs, such as HIV protease inhibitors.
