• Description: Deoxy corticosterone acetate is a synthetic analogue of the natural compound corticosterone. It has been shown to cause liver lesions, cardiac effects, and hypertension in laboratory animals. Deoxy corticosterone acetate binds to dinucleotide phosphate and prevents its conversion into cytosolic calcium. This interaction inhibits the phosphorylation of myocardial proteins and reduces the production of ATP in heart muscle cells. The binding of deoxycorticosterone acetate to DNA is also an important factor in its toxicity.
