Description:

Milnacipran is an antidepressant drug that belongs to the group of selective serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders such as Raynaud's phenomenon, chronic pain, and depression. Milnacipran is a chiral compound with two enantiomers, R-milnacipran and S-milnacipran. The S-enantiomer has been shown to have a higher affinity for the serotonin transporter than the R-enantiomer. The plasma concentrations of both enantiomers are increased by food intake. This may lead to an increased therapeutic effect at low doses due to the increase in plasma levels of the active form (S-milnacipran) or decreased therapeutic effect at high doses due to the decrease in plasma levels of the active form (R-milnacipran). The half-life of milnacipran is about 10 hours, but
