2-O-Desmethyl cisapride is a proton pump inhibitor. It is used to treat acid reflux, also known as heartburn, by reducing the production of stomach acid. 2-O-Desmethyl cisapride belongs to a group of drugs called methyloxycarbonyl proton pump inhibitors (or MOCAPs). It has been shown that 2-O-Desmethyl cisapride can be metabolized in humans by cyp3a4 and has the potential for drug interactions with other drugs metabolized by this enzyme. The drug is well tolerated in humans and does not cause major side effects. Clinical relevance for 2-O-Desmethyl cisapride has not yet been established, but it may have clinical implications for patients with liver disease or who are taking other drugs that inhibit cyp3a4, such as erythromycin and grapefruit juice.
