N,N-Diamylnitrosamine is a carcinogen that has been shown to cause cancer in animals. It can be metabolized by the liver and excreted into the intestine where it is absorbed and enters cells. N,N-Diamylnitrosamine has synergistic effects with other carcinogens such as cationic surfactants and alkylating agents. It also causes cross-linking of DNA strands which can lead to mutations. This chemical is used in biological products as a cross-linking agent to promote cell growth. The chemical's cancerous properties have been demonstrated through its ability to induce tumors in rats and mice, as well as through its ability to induce cancerous tumors when injected into the skin of hamsters.
