Description:1,1-Dibromo-3,3,3-trifluoroacetone is an analog of the promiscuous substrate 1,1-dibromoethane. It undergoes basic hydrolysis and has been shown to be a horticultural and pharmacological agent. The trifluoromethyl group makes this molecule reactive and provides an ultrafast reaction with nucleophiles. This reactivity makes it difficult to determine which functional groups are present in the molecule. However, by using a control experiment, it was determined that the imino and imidazole groups are present in the molecule.
