Description

Diethyl (boc-amino)malonate is a chiral, regiospecific compound that is used in the synthesis of pipecolic acid. It is an intermediate in the production of salinosporamide A, an antibiotic with immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties. The process utilizes acidic hydrolysis to produce a mixture of two diastereomers, which are separated by column chromatography and recrystallization. The two diastereomers can be converted into the respective enantiomers by transfer hydrogenation or s-adenosyl-l-methionine ester exchange.
