Product Information
- 2-(3-Bromopropyl)propanedioic acid 1,3-diethyl esterDiethyl 2-(3-bromopropyl)malonate
Diethyl 3-bromopropylmalonate is a synthetic porphyrin that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. In the presence of sodium borohydride and acetone, it reacts to form an adduct with four molecules of acetone. This reaction is reversed by adding hydrochloric acid, which releases three molecules of water, one molecule of carbon dioxide, and one molecule of ethanol. Diethyl 3-bromopropylmalonate can be used to synthesize steroidal sapogenins with the assistance of alkaloids. The fluorescence spectrum of diethyl 3-bromopropylmalonate has been shown to be different from that of diacetate and can be used as a means for distinguishing between the two compounds.
