Dihydro capsaicin is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is a competitive antagonist of the capsaicin receptor and has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of COX-1, COX-2, and lipoxygenase in rat liver microsomes. Dihydro capsaicin has also been shown to have an anti-atherosclerotic effect in experimental animals. This compound blocks the synthesis of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, which leads to reduced platelet aggregation and decreased production of leukotrienes that are important for inflammation. Dihydro capsaicin also binds to human serum albumin and can be used as a control analyte for immunoassays.
