This inhibition prevents the RTK from activating downstream pathways that promote cell proliferation. 3,5-Dimethylpyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde can also be used for the treatment of renal cell carcinomas, pancreatic stromal tumours, and neuroendocrine tumours. It has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis in cultured cells. 3,5-Dimethylpyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde is activated by metal ions such as copper or iron to form a reactive radical species which reacts with oxygen to form superoxide radicals that are cytotoxic.
