Product Information
- Bis(1-bromo-1-methylethyl)dimethylsilane
Dimethylbis(a-bromoisopropyl)silane is a reactive, catalytic hydrogenation agent that can be used in the synthesis of polymers, such as polypropylene, by catalytic hydrogenation. It is also used to remove bromine from organic compounds, such as methylene chloride and benzene. The magnesium reacts with the dimethylbis(a-bromoisopropyl)silane to form magnesium bromide and hydrogen gas. The extrusion reaction of tetrahydrofuran (THF) with magnesium bromide produces THF hydrobromide and hydrogen gas. Dimethylbis(a-bromoisopropyl)silane can also be used to oligomerize unsaturated molecules.
