Description:Doxorubicinone is a prodrug that is metabolized to doxorubicin, which has a range of activities against tumour cells. It binds to the hydroxyl group on the enzyme topoisomerase II, preventing DNA unwinding and transcription. Doxorubicinone has been shown to have cardiac toxicity in experimental models and can cause cardiomyopathy in humans. The drug also reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and induces cell lysis.
