The molecule has hydroxyl groups that can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. 3,5-Dichlorosalicylaldehyde can be synthesized from 3,5-dichlorobenzaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. 3,5-Dichlorosalicylaldehyde also has biological properties that include binding to copper ions and inhibiting human liver functions.
