Description:5,6-Diamino-1-methyluracil (5,6-DAMU) is an organic compound that has the chemical formula C4H7N3O2S. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and ethanol. 5,6-DAMU has been shown to have antiradical activity and can be used as a substitute for uric acid in laboratory studies on copper complexes. It has also been used as an intermediate in the preparation of other organic compounds. 5,6-DAMU can be synthesized by reacting methyl iodide with aniline followed by hydrolysis of the resulting sulfoxide to produce aminomethyl pyrimidine.
