Description:

2,6-Dimethyl-4H-pyran-4-one is a monosubstituted carbonyl compound that has hydrogen bond and redox potential characteristics. It is a reactive species that can be reduced to the corresponding methylene and oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid. The 2,6-dimethylpyranone has been used in coordination chemistry to form metal complexes.
