4-(Dimethylamino)pyridine N-oxide hydrate (DMAPO) is a chemical compound that has been used in the synthesis of amide compounds, and as an intermediate for organic synthesis. DMAPO is a white solid with a melting point of 136-138°C and a molecular weight of 149.12 g/mol. It is soluble in water and alcohols. This compound can form stable complexes with hydrogen bonds through its pyridine ring, which leads to the formation of amides or amine salts. DMAPO has also been shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
