It also inhibits metal ion-catalyzed oxidation, which is involved in the inflammatory process. This drug has been shown to be an efficient method for removing cholesterol from cells in vitro. Diethoxyethane can also be used as a solid catalyst in organic synthesis reactions and polymeric matrix materials such as those found in contact lenses and catheters. Diethoxyethane has been shown to have beneficial effects on bowel disease, including inflammatory bowel disease.
