1,3-Difluorobenzene is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water. It is used as a precursor to other chemicals and pharmaceuticals. 1,3-Difluorobenzene can be synthesized by the reaction of hydrogen fluoride with diphenyl ether. The synthesis of 1,3-difluorobenzene may also involve the use of diazonium salt and chloroform. The compound reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen chloride gas and hydrochloric acid. This reaction also produces hydrogen fluoride which can react with another molecule of 1,3-difluorobenzene to form more product.
