Description:
Deprenyl is a selective, irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). It is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Deprenyl has been shown to inhibit oxidative injury in rat liver mitochondria. The drug also protects against neuronal death by inhibiting MAO-B and MAO-A activity. Deprenyl has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes, which may lead to drug interactions.
