Fenticonazole nitrate is a broad-spectrum antimycotic that exhibits minimal toxicity in animals. It is active against c. glabrata and other dermatophytes, including Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis, and Epidermophyton floccosum. Fenticonazole nitrate has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in experimental models, as well as in mycological samples. Fenticonazole nitrate also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8 by human mesangial cells. This drug also exhibits antiinflammatory activity against carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Fenticonazole nitrate has been shown to be effective against cancer tissues by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.
