• Description: 3-Deazaadenine is a purine nucleoside. It has been found to inhibit the growth of herpes simplex virus and other DNA viruses. 3-Deazaadenine inhibits viral DNA replication by interfering with the hydroxylation of deoxyguanosine, which is required for viral DNA synthesis. 3-Deazaadenine also has an inhibitory effect on the activity of human target enzymes such as dna polymerases, topoisomerases, and helicases. In vivo studies have shown that 3-deazaadenine can be used to treat herpes simplex virus infections in mice and rats.
