2,5-Dichloro-3-picoline is an intermediate in the production of herbicides, insecticides and other organic compounds. It can be synthesized from 2,5-dichloropyridine by reaction with picolinic acid to form 2,5-dichloro-3-picolinic acid. This compound is used in the synthesis of herbicides such as the triazine herbicide amitrole.
2,5-Dichloro-3-picoline has a pyridine ring with two carbon atoms and two chlorine atoms. The pyridine ring is substituted with a chlorine atom on one side and a halogen atom on the other side.
