N-Dodecylphosphocholine (PC) is a phospholipid that binds to the neurokinin-1 receptor, which is a G protein-coupled receptor. PC is an active antiretroviral drug that has been shown to inhibit HIV replication and reduce inflammation in cells. It also inhibits the growth of HL-60 cells, a cell line derived from human leukemic cells, by binding to the cell surface and blocking the activity of phospholipase A2 and other enzymes. The structural analysis of PC has been performed using x-ray crystallography. This compound is often used as a model system for studying basic proteins due to its high molecular weight, high melting point, and stability in water. PC can be found in human serum at concentrations of 5% to 20%. Studies have shown that it may have effects on axonal growth when injected into micelles.
