Description:

4,6-Dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) is a synthetic cationic surfactant that has been used as an analytical reagent to study the kinetics of hydrogenation reactions. It has also been used as a catalyst for desulfurization and as an additive in lubricating oil. 4,6-DMDBT is a reactive compound that can be prepared by reacting benzene with sulfur dioxide. The reaction mechanism starts with the formation of benzyl sulfate from the reaction between benzene and sulfur dioxide. This intermediate reacts with dimethylamine to form the final product 4,6-DMDBT.
