This drug binds to the folate receptor and inhibits cell proliferation by interfering with DNA synthesis at the S phase of the cell cycle. 6,7-Dimethoxy-3H-quinazolin-4-one has also been shown to be effective against human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells. The pharmacokinetic properties of 6,7-dimethoxy-3H-quinazolin-4-one are not well understood due to its short half life. It is metabolized via demethylation, acetylation and thiosemicarbazide reactions.
