Description:

1-Decanethiol is a monomer that has been shown to self-assemble into monolayers on gold. It is able to form electrochemical junctions with the nitrite ion, which is important for the prevention of infectious diseases. In addition, 1-decanethiol has been shown to have low potency and high reactivity. Kinetic energy of the molecule has been shown to be an important factor in its activity as an antimicrobial agent. Reaction mechanism studies have found that 1-decanethiol can inhibit nitrite reductase by binding to the active site, which prevents the formation of reactive nitrogen species and reduces bacteremia.
