Diethylene glycol di(p-toluenesulfonate) is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that is used in the preparation of stable complexes with carbonyl compounds. It reacts readily with alcohols to form stable esters and can be used for the synthesis of chiral compounds. Diethylene glycol di(p-toluenesulfonate) is an acidic, reactive compound and has been shown to be a growth factor for some types of cancer cells. The carbonyl group in this chemical makes it a good substrate for nmr spectra as well as functional groups. Diethylene glycol di(p-toluenesulfonate) is also a chiral compound with two different conformational properties. It has two methoxy groups on either end of the molecule that are important for its function in the body.
