16-DehydroprogesteroNe is a metabolite of progesterone that is produced by the enzyme hydrolysis. 16-DehydroprogesteroNe has been shown to inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) and colon cancer cells (HCT116). It also has physiological activities that are similar to progesterone, including anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. 16-DehydroprogesteroNe can be produced from the metabolism of progesterone by the enzymes side chain cleavage or oxidative reactions with rifampin or rat liver microsomes. This metabolite may have health effects on the bowel, such as inflammatory bowel disease, and may be involved in hormone regulation.
