Description:
S,S'-dimethyl dithiocarbonate is used as a precursor in the synthesis of other drugs. It has been shown to have tuberculostatic activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the oxidative carbonylation of amines catalyzed by silver ions. The reaction mechanism for this drug has not been elucidated and it is unclear how it inhibits bacterial growth.
