Description:6,7-Dimethoxyisoquinoline is an isoquinoline alkaloid that has shown antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. It inhibits bacterial growth by preventing the formation of the ternary complex between GTPase, GTP and cAMP. 6,7-Dimethoxyisoquinoline also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. This compound is derived from popowia (Populus) bark extract and is used in vitro studies on Popowia faecalis.
