This molecule has been shown to have anxiolytic properties in animal studies and hydrolyzes to form ethylene glycol. 3-(2-(3,4-Dimethoxybenzoyl)-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)pentan-2-one also has a hydrolysis product of tofisopam. Tofisopam is an organic acid that has been used as an antidepressant for the treatment of anxiety disorders.
