Diethylene glycol Monohexyl ether (DEGME) is a copper complex that has been used as an inorganic acid, malonic acid, and genotoxic agent. It has been shown to be carcinogenic and cause genetic damage. DEGME is a glycol ester that reacts with ethylene diamine and hydrochloric acid to produce fatty acids, which are the main components of particles and hydroxyl groups. The antimicrobial activity of DEGME is due to its detergent properties, which may be attributed to its ability to form stable complexes with metal ions such as copper ions in hard water. Diethylene glycol Monohexyl ether also has film-forming properties that make it an important additive for the manufacture of detergents for use in household cleaning applications.
