Dicyclohexyl disulfide (DCD) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of diazonium salts. It is used as an analytical reagent for the detection of methyl sulfones in industrial-chemical samples. The reaction is carried out by adding DCD, hydrochloric acid, and sodium carbonate to the sample. Dicyclohexyl disulfide reacts with the methyl sulfone to form a diazonium salt, which can be detected by adding hydrogen fluoride and acyl halides. The reaction proceeds by adding DCD and sodium hydroxide solution to form a hydrogen chloride gas. This gas then reacts with acyl halides to form a colorless crystalline precipitate that can be analyzed using spectroscopy or chromatography.
