The compound can also be used as a nucleophile in organic chemistry reactions, including esterification and hydrolysis reactions. 4-(Dodecyloxy)-phenol can be synthesized from phenolates or by hydrolyzing dodecanol with sodium hydroxide in the presence of hydrochloric acid. 4-(Dodecyloxy)-phenol has been shown to have high polarizability, which facilitates its interaction with metal ions.
