Diatrizoic acid is a sodium salt of diatrizoate that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It has been found to be effective in treating hyperproliferative diseases, such as psoriasis, by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. Diatrizoic acid also inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA in order to inhibit protein synthesis and cell division. Diatrizoic acid has a synergistic effect with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cell factor. This drug also has been shown to be toxic for epidermal cells and can cause skin irritation if not used properly.
Diatrizoic acid is an antimicrobial agent that is used in wastewater treatment applications. It binds to organic matter, forming complexes that are soluble in water and can then be removed from wastewater by sedimentation or filtration. Diatrizoic
