Description

3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl alcohol is a flavonoid that is used for the treatment of cancer. The compound inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2, which is associated with inflammation. 3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl alcohol also inhibits metathesis reactions in an equilibration process that can be catalyzed by palladium or platinum. It has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of COX-2 and its ability to induce apoptosis in tumor cells. 3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl alcohol also has anti-cancerous properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cell proliferation through alkylation and spiroketal conjugation reactions.
