5,7-Dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin monohydrate is an antioxidant that has been shown to inhibit cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases. It is also a reactive molecule and can act as a scavenger of radicals. 5,7-Dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin monohydrate has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the activity of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes in vitro by reducing the release of hypochlorous acid (HOCl). This compound may be used in chinese herbal medicine to treat inflammation.
