It has been synthesised by cross-coupling reactions of boronic acids with halides. 2,5-Diiodopyridine can also be used as a precursor for epibatidine. Epibatidine is a drug that binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and activates them, which in turn leads to activation of voltage-gated calcium channels.
